Who are these people?

Just curious who these people are? They seem to like connecting themselves with the Hawaiians

What's the deal? Can someone provide a background on Cha Smith and Carolyn Hatfield? They are very vocal "leaders" and it made me wonder why the seem to include native Hawaiian cultural practices when they spout off about issues.

I give them credit for standing up to bio-genetics, and the anti-war movement. But do they latch on to Hawaiian activisism because they can't make a stand on their own?
