HPD: up to 2000 marchers!?
by DLi

According to the front page article in today's(J 19) Hono Star-Bulletin, "More than 1,500 marched" in yesterday's hugely successful anti-War March on Ala Moana Blvd. around Ward Center. It even quoted Police Sgt. Glenn Naekawa in saying that the crowd may have approached 2,000.
This is a real switch. Usually, the organizers are accused of inflating the number of participants, while the press and the police habitually low-ball the protesters' estimate.
In any case, it was a BIG Success. Blocking off traffic on Ala Moana Blvd. gave the hundreds of (temporarily for about 20 minutes) stranded motorists a chance to take in the spirited Peace Parade, as well as an opportunity for them to get educated about the Bush Oil War via the many educational slogans on the colorful banners and placards. In fact, a large proportion of the motorists honked their horns in support or waved "V" peace signs in sympathy.
Mr. Bush, if you and your oil gang is watching, you'd better "Read Our Lips:"
1, 2, 3, 4, We won't fight an Oilman's War; 5, 6, 7, 8, Terrorism is Capital's Enduring Fate!

Hi, I was a participant in yesterday's demonstration here in Honolulu, and I just wanted to stress how pleased i was with the turnout. There were youth as well as seasoned activists represented in the march, and i felt that we all stood out together in solidarity despite our differences. If we continue this mode of thinking in the future, there's a very good chance for us to overcome the Bush push for war. Let's maintain this atmosphere of resistance, and make it grow here in Hawaii. Stand up with each other in saying, "Stop the War!"

As a former resident of Hawaii, I'm glad to know that at least the sand you stick your head in is warm.
Lets all chant against war, and all the while we will "hope" that the truly hostile forces in the world wont take the war to us.
I hope you all dont have a lot of "regrets" in the future.

I find it sad that so many can't see what is really happening here. The truth is this: The #1 problem with this country is that the ignorant don't trust their elected officials. Iraq is a threat to our troops, its neighbors, its own people, and the whole free world. Whether anyone wants to believe it or not, there is a serious amount of intelligence data that indicates Saddam has ties to Al quaida, however indirect. He has been sending money to the families of suicide bombers in Israel for years. His neighbors' military forces are much weaker than his own and he uses that fact to terrorize them. Saddam has the ability and the will to kill thousands and maybe even millions of innocent civilians. Our weaker allies are being threatened by a madman who has no problem destroying and killing. It is our responsibility as a superpower to defend the defenseless. If we don't, who will? If a thousand must die to protect a million, so be it, however unfortunate. God Bless George W. Bush, God bless the U.S. military forces, and God Bless America.

It is sad to live in a country ran 80% by corporatations that are owning our media. The result being so many people unopposed to what may very well begin a final world war. It is a shame that our braun as a country has so over-shadowed our brain. What shall be shall be, but I feel, if you are American, and have internet access, research alternative, and dissident views on global media. The truth will set us free, or at least inform us, eh? Don't be blinded my mass opinions, your televisions, radios and newspapers. In this 'information" age, the real danger is byte sized realities obscuring the voice of intergrity.

Saddam has ties to Al-Queda??? It's sad that you bought into that propoganda. they hated each other...in Osama's eyes...he viewed Saddam as the same as any Western culture...anyway. them being a threat to the world is an amazing exageration...they don't have the weapon technology we have. remember...we have the most nukes out of any country. also...if we didn't mess with other countries so much, and try to manipulate everbody else's polics in various countries so much...we probably wouldn't have been bombed on 9/11...it's been so easy for the U.S. to have everyone look at the crime committed...and not the reasons that led to the bombing...so whatever...blah blah...pro-war advocates I have found to be very ill informed and becuase of their blind patriotism...don't even bother to find the truth...it's annoying and doesn't help the world condition....
